Principal Engineering Consultant
Lead/Principal Engineering Consultant
As a Principal Consultant at Nimble, you will be an exemplary leader within our Engineering Capability, setting the standard for technical excellence, client leadership, and commercial acumen. You will represent the best of Nimble, building trust with senior client stakeholders while driving positive outcomes on complex programmes.
This is a multifaceted role for a proactive, personable, and passionate technology leader. You will be comfortable being the "first on the ground" on new client engagements, shaping account strategy, establishing technical quality, and providing crucial support to our pre-sales activities. You will wear many hats, blending deep engineering expertise with delivery, data, and product awareness to solve client problems and identify new opportunities for growth.
Key Responsibilities
Client Engagement & Strategy
Senior Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with senior client stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor and strategic partner.
First on the Ground: Operate independently on new engagements, navigating uncertainty, managing client expectations, and building high-performing delivery teams from the ground up.
Account Strategy: Work closely with fellow nimblers to understand client pain points and formulate account strategies, identifying opportunities to deliver further value.
Champion Nimble: Proactively champion Nimble's values and expertise, both to clients and internally, fostering a unified identity and cross-pollinating knowledge across teams, domains, and capabilities.
Technical Leadership & Quality
Architectural Ownership: This is a deeply technical role that requires a broad range of skills, with software and cloud architecture and engineering at its core. Utilise a broad toolbox of architectural patterns and approaches to design and advocate for pragmatic, effective solutions tailored to the client's context.
Set the Standard: Establish and maintain a high bar for technical quality across multiple teams, having strong, loosely-held opinions on what "good" looks like and helping teams achieve it.
Hands-on Mentorship: Support and coach Senior and Lead consultants, elevating others and acting as a guiding hand to empower them to drive technical initiatives.
Cross-Capability Collaboration: Work across different capabilities, including data, design, and product, to ensure a holistic and joined-up approach to delivery.
Commercial & Pre-Sales Support
Growth Identification: Proactively identify and qualify new commercial opportunities within existing accounts to drive growth.
Pre-Sales Engagement: Provide expert technical support during pre-sales activities, helping to shape bids and proposals and demonstrating Nimble's expertise to prospective clients.
Flexible Deployment: Be comfortable with a flexible level of billable work, using non-billable time effectively to contribute to Nimble's internal growth, knowledge sharing, and business development.
Skills
Required
Technical Expertise: Deep experience in at least one major cloud provider (AWS or Azure preferred) and a strong understanding of a range of object-oriented and functional programming languages.
Pre-Sales Experience: Previous experience in a technical pre-sales or sales engineering environment.
Architectural Vision: Proven ability to design robust, pragmatic technical architectures for complex systems, knowing when to build and when to leverage existing solutions.
Leadership & Mentoring: Demonstrable experience in a leadership capacity, with a passion for coaching, mentoring, and developing the skills of other consultants.
Stakeholder Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and convey complex technical concepts to senior, non-technical audiences.
Proactive & Personable: A natural self-starter who is confident, positive, and proactive in identifying and solving problems without waiting to be told. You must be a "people person".
Desirable
AI Mindset: A pragmatic and curious mindset towards AI and emerging technologies, with a willingness to learn and apply them where they add value.
Broad Skillset: A T-shaped profile with an understanding of data, delivery management, and product principles.
Behaviours
Pragmatism & Ownership: You take ownership of challenges and approach them with a pragmatic mindset, balancing ideal solutions with practical constraints to deliver value quickly & effectively.
Collaboration & Egoless Leadership: You are a natural collaborator who champions a culture of transparency and knowledge sharing. You empower others, share credit, and make decisions for the benefit of the team and the client.
Technical Excellence: You maintain an exceptionally high level of technical knowledge and standards, constantly seeking to keep yourself and the teams you work with relevant in a fast-moving industry.
